Plasma, Not Diamonds

Do you know the old song, 'Diamonds are a girl's best friend', made famous by the first "dumb blonde", Marilyn Monroe? If not, here is one piece of the lyric.
'Men grow cold As girls grow old And we lose our charms in the end
But square-cut or pear-shaped These rocks don't lose their shape
Diamonds are a girl's best friend'
So was Marilyn right? Are diamonds what ladies most want? Ok, let's make the question narrower. Are diamonds the material possession most women favor over all others? Not if a recent survey by the all women TV network 'Oxygen' is correct. It found that diamonds are no longer a girl's best friend, as three of four women surveyed said they would prefer a new plasma TV to a diamond necklace. Maybe the technology gap between men and women is disappearing. In fact the survey determined that women on average own 6.6 technology devices while men own 6.9, and four of every five women felt comfortable using technology with 46% saying they fix their own computer problems.
All of that came from a survey of 1,400 women and 700 men aged 15 to 49 that also found:
1) 77% of women want a plasma TV instead of the diamond necklace and 56% would prefer the TV instead of a weekend vacation in Florida.
2) Shoes, those foot jewels women seem to never have enough of, lost out to a new digital video camera, as 86% of women said they would take the camera instead of shoes that were priced the same.
3) The majority of women said that over the next five years they will increase their activities in six tech areas: digital cameras, cell phones, E mail, camera phones, text messaging and instant messaging.
Well, do you agree with those ladies about all or most of the results? Or is it true that "A kiss on the hand may be quite Continental, but diamonds are a girl's best friend."
Ok, maybe one's identity is established in ways other than material possessions. Maybe even by stolen possessions. That's right, some women (and men) say forget diamonds, plasma and everything else. Take the case the Maria Bergan, 23, of Lakewood Ohio. Maria didn't want diamonds, she wanted a someone else's identity and got it by stealing the wallet and driver's license of a local waitress. Unfortunately for Maria, when she went into a bar to buy a drink and showed her ID to the waitress to prove she was old enough to have it, but the photo on the ID was in fact that of the waitress who was serving her. The waitress then called the police to inform them that Maria was trying to use her own ID and that it had been stolen the day before. Maria was arrested and charged with identity theft and receiving stolen property. No word yet whether Maria will also be charged with stupidity.
