Spreading Cheers

Hi, Lou. Guess what we are exporting to the rest of the world? Or you could just tell me in a cheer. You see, the rest of the world is getting serious about cheer leading. Yep! Another American invention is "contaminating" the world. Yes, those lovely ladies (ok, there are male cheerleaders too, but I pay no attention to them) in sexy cheer leading outfits are going global. But why now?
I think the internet, Hollywood and most of all, ESPN, is responsible for this new interested in Rah Rah-ing for the local team. ESPN has been broadcasting sporting events that have cheerleaders for many years, and even many of the U.S. cheerleading competitions are shown in other countries. So I think that is making some students attracted to cheerleading.
I read about his today in an article about international cheerleading competitions. The first one to open competition to foreign cheerleading teams was two years ago. Three foreign teams showed up: two from Colombia and one from New Zealand. This year, 38 foreign teams came from 15 countries. The estimate is that there are now more than 100,000 cheerleaders abroad (compared with 1.5 million in America). The global interest has mushroomed so much that last year the USASF created an International All Star Federation with connections to groups in 52 countries.
The question to ask is how does cheerleading fit in to other cultures and religions. Surely, there are few Muslim cheerleaders, because cheerleaders show too much skin and are a little sexually suggestive sometimes. Hehe I think a Muslim al-Quida cheerleading team is not likely, but if one is established it might cheer (imagine the ladies are in Burkas)
'Plant a bomb!
Plant a bomb!
Kill the infidel.'
How about Japanese cheerleaders? Maybe they all wear high tech uniforms, users laser lights and bow after each cheer...
And what if there were Italian cheerleaders for the mafia? Maybe they could cheer..
'Two bits.
Three bits.
Four bits
a dollar.
all for the hit man stand up an holler.'
And do those Scandinavian cheerleaders do their cheers in the nude? I can imagine the jiggling from that. I think it not important what they cheer, since no one will be listening to them anyway. It's hard to watch the nude jiggle and listen at the same time.
Ok, this mail is a bit goofy, but I sometimes get these strange ideas. Don't worry. It shall pass and another more bizarre thought will come your way soon. Cheers!
