Cities Growing Too Fast

I have been reading some interesting (to me, at least) news about the change in demographics in population. The United Nations Worldwatch Institute annual "State of the World" report says that the world population is now more urban than rural. More people now live in cities (and suburbs) than in rural areas.
This is in contrast to what the world has always known, a rural based human existence. Most of the change is in Asia and Africa where 22 megacites each have populations of more than 10 million people. By 2015 there will be 253 Asian cites, 59 African cities, and 65 Latin American cities with a population between 1 and 5 million, The environmental, economic and social problems are getting worse as a result of the crowded cities, supplying clean water and air, adequate waste facilities, reasonable cost food and proper shelter and transportation may be a crisis that will overwhelm some areas of the world.
Three billion people today live in cities, but about 1 billion are in slums without clean water, proper housing or sanitation. About 1.6 million of them die because of poor sanitation or a lack of clean water. And most of the growth of cities is in impoverished areas, not in affluent countries. Surely some of the Muslims extremism and other anti social movements are being bred in such poor conditions where the impoverished are more willing to listen to the rhetoric of the crazies. Instead of worry obsessively about "global warming" and other such dubious ideologies, the world should concentrate on making urban areas livable in order to prevent some of the world instability from worsening.
I doubt that will happen because for the affluent populations fighting poverty is not trendy enough to garner their attention. they would rather focus on the fantasy of "global warming". That Disney character Tigger was always a little too feminine for me. I used to watch the Disney movies constantly with Jane and suspected Tigger might be a little gay. Hmmm When we visited Disney world in Orlando years ago Tigger hugged Jane and I thought he looked a little too much like Michael Jackson. But I was wrong.
You see, Tigger has just been accused of hitting a child while posing for a photo, a spokeswoman for the theme park said. Officials also temporarily suspended the guy below the Tigger outfit, Michael J. Fedelem, while they investigate the accusations.
Disney spokeswoman Zoraya Suarez said. "Naturally, physical altercations between cast members and guests are not tolerated," But a fellow from New Hampshire named Jerry Monaco videotaped his son, Jerry Jr., posing with the costumed character at Disney-MGM Studios it showed a confrontation., according to the Orange County Sheriff's Office who investigated the complaint of the alleged assault.. The father said Tigger Fedelem intentionally hit his son "on or about the head. "The tape only shows a fraction of what happened. Now it's up to us to find out what led up to that."
Of course it is probably that the boy, like so many small children may have touched Tigger in the wrong spot and precipitated a retaliation. But it would not be the first time a Disney resident got frisky with a child. .In 2004 a different employee at Walt Disney World dressed as Tigger was accused of a more heterosexual contact by touching the breast of a 13-year-old girl while she posed with him for a photo. A jury found that man not guilty.
Sigh....With Disney reports like these I am hoping they re open Neverland. Even Michael Jackson behaved better at his kiddy park.
