Defending The Borders

We in the U.S. have an enormous problem with illegal immigrants spilling across the border between Mexico and the U.S. An estimated 10 million came in just last year, few of which will ever be forced to return to their country of origin.
Though most are illiterate peasants from Mexico and Central America, there is quite a large number of illegals from other countries, drug runners, Islamic terrorists, criminals and more. The policy of the U.S. government regarding stopping this flood has been the same since it opened up in the early 60's- do nothing about it.
Politicians are afraid to stop the illegal flow because of the huge Hispanic vote in the U.S, that would surely vote against politicians who did make an attempt to enforce immigration law. In effect, the U.S has all but shut off legal immigration (the type that is a positive flow inward) because if is flooded with illegals (the negative flow) So the U.S. has a skeleton crew of border agents who patrol and arrest a small percentage of the illegal flow- just to make it appear we are enforcing immigration policy.
Until now! The disgrace of this flood of illegals has so upset people along the Arizona/Mexican border that, beginning on April 2nd, civilian volunteers started a border patrol effort to sight illegals and report the violation to border patrol agents who will supposedly arrest the illegal immigrants. Participants in the Minutemen Project have already aided in the arrest of a number of illegals with the simple surveillance techniques they employed. "You observe them, report them and get out of their way," said Mike McGarry, a spokesperson for the Minutemen Project. The problem with such a civilian project is the possibility of vigilante violence by the volunteers or by the illegals. Some illegals now enter with handguns nd there have been a number shootings by illegal immigrants of residents who live on the American side of the border. Many of the volunteers were recruited on the internet and some carry weapons (It is legal in Arizona to have a handgun).
What a disgrace for my country that my government refuses to enforce lawful border entries, that the President (Bush) who brags about fighting terrorism allows open borders with Mexico. I think this volunteer patrol will eventually disappear as the novelty wears off. But perhaps it may be an indication that in the minds of the American people it is time for the U.S. to stop pretending it has a system for legal entry into the U.S. Ending the flood of undesirable illegal immigrants would put the U.S. on equal footing with every other nation.
All others do not allow such an influx of illegals into their. If the U.S can stop the legal flow it can once again attract the legal immigrants who have made my country a desirable place to live, Until it happens, America will continue to be killed by the flow of the illegal immigrants.
